08 of March: tension and imperfections
There is a saying that “If we do not go through suffering, we will never enjoy the sense of joy and fulfillment.”
When we look at a happy status, an established company, a professional profile or a positive lifestyle, we might wish that we could be like them! All of the events happening which are not under our control can be also understood through a certain lens and from different angles. As what actually goes under the source of the paradigm is the hidden element under the surface of the water, deep down into the bottom of the ocean. Therefore, just observe what we can see and we can have some assumptions of the course of action but should suspend whatever voice of fear, voice of judgment and voice of cynicism (Theory U) coming to be calm, be back to the presencing mood, and get back the wisdom to cope with the complexity.
Those who are innovation leaders or working on social issues must be crazy enough and have the gumption values, especially fall in love with the complexity of the problems.
The team can be very perfect from the outlook, yet who knows the inner chemistry of the relationships (Steven) whether it is balancing or under storm. One of the important element to build a strong team is the certain understanding of psychology and spirituality to deal with unexpected emotional conflicts (Hai Yen). Otherwise, we can never tackle the source of the problem, the source of the U and build a culture of trust. What are some emotional crises? There is no such an extremely perfect team in reality that can always be in harmony, no matter how aligned they are in all aspects of life. “There are no perfect relationships. It’s how we accept the imperfections that makes it perfect.” And a beautiful thing is never exclusively imperfections. Human are beautiful because of the super vast dynamics of characteristics, personality and mindset that are unique regarding every single being. There is no standard for such diversity to qualify the level of perfection or imperfection, which is the uniqueness of human. I love this job because it is perfect to improve my shortcomings and immerse myself in the environment of trust, challenges, self-directed learning and all.
Of course, it does not always look perfect as what I say! There are effort, trials, experimentation, failure, rejection, appreciation, joy, happiness, mistakes, nervousness, hope, expectation, experience, improvement, recognition, complement, criticism, constructive feedback, sadness, tension, love, doubt, impatience, gumption, and no exception for boredom! To be continued… The job scope or the role might be alike in many workplaces but how we feel towards the job is different among individuals. My job gives me the chance to encounter various kinds of emotions that sharpen my personal mastery as a being on a daily basis.
Through conscious and unconscious exposure to Gumption’s culture, I learn how to confront the problems and confront myself. Liu Yan said that sometimes the work can be effectively done without spending so much effort. The key point is to spend quality time working on the right thing. Do not give up just because I am scared of the work. Find ways to rock the challenge and get it done within the boundary of ourselves. I need to set boundary in a way that there is certain possibilities that can be tapped into and at the same time certain limitations that are impossible to be touched. I need to learn how to refuse some requests that I am not capable of. Do not exhaust myself to live someone’s expectation.
When it comes to the mutual misunderstanding, unless the parties have heart-open conversations to figure out the common problem, things will get not only unsolved but even worse. We do not want others to be hurt by telling them that they are the cause of the problem, instead blame ourselves to be the cause of the issue. The way we do not dare to confront others is equivalent to the way we do not dare to confront ourselves. That is when we have not had enough trust on each other.
However, if we do not have enough compassion for the teammates, we might keep assuming the solutions that unfortunately don’t meet their living philosophy. That the problem can be solved by opening our hearts is just our personal perspective, others’ is to avoid the fact that I am having a problem but it’s fine if you want to change. Some people just try to show as if they are fine, which is an obvious evidence presenting their irritation and gloominess to the observers. They are not aware that they are transferring a source of irritating energy to others, the energy that is easily sensed and felt without saying it out. Again, the case put an emphasis on the power of compassion in relationships. We can have other 5C that are calm, curiosity, courage, commitment and collaboration to work hard and learn humbly to achieve the objectives. But what does it mean in life if we take action without feelings or empathy for human?
"Actually the mind, like the rain water is pure in its natural state. It becomes confused only because it pursues mental impressions. It gets lost in its mood. It's useless carrying burdens around and that letting go brings ease and lightness- is an example of knowing ourselves. Our pride, our sense of self that we depend on, is the same as a heavy rock. Like that rock, if we think about letting go of self, we are afraid that without it, there would be nothing left. But when we finally let it go, we realize for ourselves the ease and comfort of not clinging."
