Thankful and Humanity.

If COMMITMENT is to describe my expected 2020, HUMANITY is to embrace my 2019.

A phone call with Lens on Mekong people brought peace to me. For a long time, I have not worked with such a nice team where people are truly connected through a reflective culture. Check in and check out is a great tool to bring our presence and attention to the ongoing moment. In the end, the words shared at the beginning and the end of the meeting give everyone the right to speak and be understood. This friendly behavior is not applied in the traditional or even modern working environment as their purpose is towards results. But in order to cultivate fruitful results, setting the context is first and foremost for people to be ready. The practice in fact tends to be the most meaningful part in teamwork experience that allows individuals to be authentic and open.

Ultimately, the ending goal of all courses of action should be to respond to human’s need with humanity.

My teammates seem to be unchanging. They are still there, heart-warmed, curious, reflective, hardworking, peaceful, and loved. I am so happy to have you as my friends, my teachers. We started our call with the checkin question “What is a wish for your new year 2020”? We shared about our hobby, our learning target, our care for beloved ones and ourselves. We all have the common goal is to do something new. Meeting people conveying their sense of curiosity by doing their initiatives and action is thankful. It is the curiosity to learn to learn that we keep motivated to explore and grow.

“I want to play ice skating this year. For the past time, when it comes to setting goals, I always aim to learn things, and that lack the human side.” My teammate wants to take an action of humanity besides keep learning. Yet learning itself is humane if learners pay attention to the consequences of the learning process or learning content to the living. What matters is the lives of humans. Lives of humans can’t exclude expressing emotions and retrospective moments of experiences. This is one of the reasons that I dropped my previous school where I had never learned any factors related to social impacts of economic development. While psychological lessons/ social life skills such as regulate emotions and empathize with others are essential to work in this complex world.

I am grateful to my own choice, and all people supporting me that I got to learn what values to pursue and live.

Also, happiness to me is doing anything that I wanted to do. Do it, not to regret not doing it. Lessons could be learnt, but regret is rarely to be healed. I don’t want to bear that unsettling feeling until the rest of my life. Even the small thing like not coming to hug a person that I am appreciative of could hang me over with sins. Thus we don’t have to seek happiness or seek love anywhere, it is right at the moment we are breathing. We can breathe nicely with little effort while many people suffer from lung diseases. We can chew rice easily but why we hardly say a compliment to the cook. Do we just take simple things around our life for granted? What we have to seek are opportunities to dive in, and seek to understand humanity. If possible, just seek how far we could go as well. And, please care about the details to see how beautiful this life is.

Lens on Mekong checked out by “who are you most thankful to?”.

The answer is … “all people, challenges, experiences, and ourselves”.

Thankful for calming down this stormy day.
